The study of epigenetics investigates modifications on DNA or DNA-associated proteins and how these covalent modifications affect gene expression and activity. Epigenetic mechanisms include methylation and hydroxymethylation of nucleotide bases, histone modification and regulation by non-coding RNA. Epigenetic modifications can be stable and heritable or they can be dynamic and influenced by outside factors like age, lifestyle, health status and environment. The GenaTi Epigenomics Research Services (GERS) offer a number of target genes or genome-wide epigenomic profiling mainly DNA methylation and miRNA expression patterns. The main approaches used to perform either targeted or genome-wide epigenomic profiling are the EpiTect MethyLight-based real time PCR, targeted sequencing, microarrays and whole-exome bisulfite sequencing.
