The proteome refers to the entire complement of proteins, including the modifications made to a particular set of proteins, produced by an organism or a cellular system. This will vary with time and distinct requirements, such as stresses, that a cell or organism undergoes. Although the genes code for proteins, they are initiators of the cellular, molecular and physiological response, while the proteins encoded by the genes are ultimately the functional players that drive both normal physiology and disease pathophysiology.

Proteomics is the high-throughput study of a specific proteome, including information on protein abundances, their variations and modifications, along with their interacting partners and networks, in order to understand cellular processes, diseases’ bio-signatures and biomarkers responsible for the diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic prediction of such disease. By understanding the protein components resulting from genetic aberrations in diseases (e.g. cancer), scientists can begin to piece together what changes are occurring in such disease proteome. The GenaTi Proteomics Research Services (GPRS) offers different sets of proteomics analysis allowing a deep understanding of molecular basis for disease initiation, progression and potential therapeutic targets based on the discovery of unique biomarkers.

Based upon the progress made in the reproducibility and transferability of proteomic workflows and methodology, The GenaTi Proteomics Research Services (GPRS) offer Protein/Cytokine Array (PCA) Core. This PCA platform offers measuring proteins such as cytokines, chemokines, growth factors and other biomarkers through the use of multiplexing technology. Researchers can submit a wide variety of sample types that range from plasma/serum to cell supernatants and test up to a maximum of 50 analytes at a time (multiplexing) in each well on a 96-well microplate. The researcher can analyze up to 40 samples in duplicate on each 96-well plate with appropriate standards, and internal controls (if required). Protein arrays are an extension of PCR Arrays that are used to verify that changes at the mRNA level truly correspond to changes at the protein level. Also, protein arrays can be utilized in a wide variety of samples for detecting biomarkers in disease versus wild-type samples. They rely on the use of fluorescent magnetic beads to detect the presence of a particular protein or biomarker. Currently, we have the MAGPIX platform available for the detection of cytokines, chemokines, growth factors and other small proteins. The Protein Array Service is cost efficient and available for researchers through:

  Multiplexing that allows detection of up to 50 analytes at a time (Not necessary to run multiple ELISAs)
  Enables researchers to extract more data from a given amount of sample at the same time as a singleplex ELISA assay
  Arrays offer a large dynamic range of detection based on either fluorescence or chemiluminescence with high precision and low background, eliminating the need to run several dilutions
  PCA acts as liaison between array companies and healthcare scientists and life sciences researchers, allowing thus the lowest prices on plates, supplies, and reagents.
  Researchers can get results fast in more than one week, depending on the scope of the project and the number of plates being analyzed.

Protein/Cytokine Arrays services include:
  Verifying changes at the mRNA level (gene expression) linked to changes at the protein level
  Preliminary (fishing) studies to screen for a large number of proteins/biomarkers
  Screening multiple proteins simultaneously to reduce sample volume needed and costs

The Full Service applies to researchers who want the PCA to perform the sample preparation and plating. Samples in the form of plasma, serum, cell supernatants and other biological fluids are to be provided, to the GPRS facility for further processing. The charges for the sample preparation are separate from the charges for reading the plate and the price of the kit. The overall cost will vary and depends on the number of plates run along with the number of analytes being analyzed.
